PE Teacher

Joanie Day

Joanie started working at Elkhart in 2005.  She has her BS in P.E.K-12, and a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska. Joanie is originally from Nebraska but has lived in Colorado for twenty years.


My job is to Accelerate the learning of every APS student everyday.


I do my job by creating a safe, fun, exciting learning environment to accelerate Physically how we move and learn with each other.


My Community needs me to do my job!



Music Teacher

Peter Stoneburner 

Peter grew up in Ann Arbor Michigan, went to school at Piedmont University and has lived in Colorado since 2003. Peter enjoys spending free time listening to music, and playing with his two sons and wife riding bikes and enjoying the outdoors. Peter has been with APS since 2007 and Elkhart since 2017.

My job is to accelerate learning for every APS student, every day. I do my job by connecting, guiding and enriching the lives of every student I teach through music. My community needs me to do my job.

Stacey Pickinpaugh

Stacey Pickinpaugh has been working for Aurora Public Schools for 8 years. She loves to read and to help children enjoy reading. When she is not at work or reading a book, she likes to spend time with her husband and two children. She is looking forward to joining the Elkhart community.

Spanish / Tech Teacher

Laura Lopez

Laura is originally from Thousand Oaks, CA. She attended Northern Arizona University and graduated with her bachelors of science in Spanish secondary education in 2021. This will be her third year teaching Spanish. She has two years of experience in middle school and was able to teach 4th and 5th grade last year which made her fall in love with teaching younger grade levels. She moved to Colorado last June with her fiancé and their two dogs, Stella and Stormy. She’s looking forward to joining the Elkhart community and meeting everyone!
